One of the events of the highest calibre ever supported by Merks was the 24th Latvian Song Festival and the 14th Dance Festival that took place in 2008.

 

Helping this major cultural event has been the priority of Merks already since 2006 when the company entered into an agreement with the Ministry of Culture and the State Agency Latvian Folk Art Centre regarding the implementation of a three-year multilateral project with an aim of supporting and participating in processes of preservation of the Song and Dance Festival tradition and the national musical and cultural values.

 

The aim of the programme – promoting the preservation of traditions of choral singing in the society, improving the Song Festival repertoire with new arrangements of songs and folk songs, thereby preserving and developing the tradition of the Song Festival, transforming it into the most significant festivity of the whole nation and of every Latvian.
